EVENT RECAP
Jumbo Offshore and Heerema Engineering Solutions Bring Industry Together for Offshore Wind Decommissioning Event
Jumbo Offshore and Heerema Engineering Solutions (HES) recently welcomed industry partners, developers, contractors, engineers and technology providers to Jumbo’s Schiedam headquarters for a knowledge-sharing event focused on the future of offshore wind decommissioning. The event was organized as part of the CLEARWIND Joint Industry Project (JIP), which aims to develop a greater understanding of regulatory requirements, removal methodologies, logistics, cost-benefit considerations and future decommissioning strategies.
As the offshore wind sector continues to expand across Europe, attention is increasingly shifting towards the full lifecycle of wind farms. Participants agreed that planning for end-of-life activities must begin today and that collaboration, knowledge sharing and innovation will be essential to addressing future technical, environmental and regulatory challenges.
The event brought together stakeholders from across the offshore wind value chain to discuss emerging technologies, the evolving regulatory landscape across the North Sea region, and practical approaches to future decommissioning projects. Discussions reinforced that the industry is not starting from scratch. Existing expertise, technologies and lessons learned provide a strong foundation for developing efficient and sustainable decommissioning solutions.
A key theme throughout the day was the importance of alignment across the industry. By bringing together developers, contractors, engineers and technology providers, the event provided a platform for exchanging perspectives, identifying common challenges and strengthening collaboration as the sector continues to mature.
As partners in the CLEARWIND initiative, Jumbo Offshore and Heerema Engineering Solutions are committed to helping advance offshore wind decommissioning strategies and supporting the industry’s preparation for the next phase of the offshore wind lifecycle.
“As offshore wind projects installed today become tomorrow's decommissioning projects, it is essential that our industry works together now to develop the technologies, methodologies and regulatory frameworks needed for the future. Events like this help bring the full value chain together to share knowledge, build momentum and accelerate the maturation of the offshore wind decommissioning market.”
Milad SheikhiHead of Sales and Business Development - Offshore Wind
Silvan Slijpen, Commercial Manager at Heerema Engineering Solutions, added:
“Offshore wind decommissioning is not a challenge that any single company can solve alone. By bringing together developers, contractors, engineers and technology providers, we can share knowledge, align our efforts and collectively develop the solutions needed to mature the industry and make future decommissioning more efficient and cost-effective.”
The event concluded with strong momentum and a shared commitment to collaboration. As offshore wind projects continue to grow in scale and number, initiatives such as CLEARWIND will play an important role in ensuring the industry is prepared for the future.
Knowledge sharing, collaboration and innovation were clear themes throughout the day, demonstrating the industry’s commitment to working together to develop the offshore wind decommissioning solutions of tomorrow.
